Established in 1783 and once the site of an Algonkian Indian Village, Swansboro is a water-way of life community.  Landowner, Theophilus Week, portioned off his plantation to begin the port town which was to eventually be called Swansboro.  This quaint coastal town is situated directly on the Intercoastal Waterway and bordered by the White Oak River.   A walking tour of Swansboro provides you with a sense of going back in time with the rich preservation of history blended with the advancements of a rapidly growing town.  Not only are the waters around Swansboro a source of income and other forms of recreation and lifestyles, it is a tremendous draw for the variety of festivities and community events.  Beginning with the "Arts by the Sea", a King Mackerel and BlueWater Fishing Tournament, a Speckled Trout Tournament, Mullet Festival and ending with a Christmas Flotilla.

Only minutes from the Atlantic Ocean, Swansboro is located in the eastern corner of Onslow County and has a high school,  middle school and elementary school.
